FWO - Bioelectrochemical Systems

This project is a collaboration with the groups of Prof. K. Rabaey at the University of Ghent, and of Prof. D. Reynaerts at the University of Leuven, Belgium. In this project, we seek to develop new carbon based electrodes for bioelectrochemical systems. In a nutshell, bacteria can be used to oxidize organics at an anode, leading to the production of electrical current. Engineering the electrode morphology is key to the performance of these devices and is the topic under investigation in this project.
